Fuad El-Hibri, Partner
Mr. El-Hibri is the founder and executive chairman of the board of Emergent BioSolutions Inc. He served as Emergent’s chief executive officer since its inception in September 1998 until March 2012. His career in life sciences began in the early 90s with Porton Products, Ltd., a private biotechnology company in the U.K. Mr. El-Hibri organized and co-directed a management buyout of Porton and formed Speywood Holdings, Ltd., are capitalized biopharmaceutical company with marketed bio-therapeutic products.
For over two decades, Mr. El-Hibri has served as chairman of East West Resources Corporation, a business development and consulting firm. In the 1990s, Mr. El-Hibri directed the construction and implementation of national and regional GSM cellular network operations. He founded, commercialized, and then sold three mobile telecommunications companies: Mobile Telesystems in Russia, Digitel in Venezuela, and Digicel in El Salvador. Mr. El-Hibri began his career with Citigroup in commercial banking in Saudi Arabia and subsequently in mergers and acquisitions in New York. He
then joined Booz Allen Hamilton as a management and strategic consultant in Indonesia, Singapore and Sydney, Australia.
Mr. El-Hibri is the chairman of the El-Hibri Foundation, a member of the board of trustees of the International Biomedical Research Alliance (NIH/Oxford/Cambridge) and a member of the advisory board of the Yale Healthcare Conference. Previously, he was a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of trustees of American University.
Mr. El-Hibri was presented a Citation for Public Service by the Honorable U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski in 2012. He has also received several awards including Executive of the Year from the Tech Council of Maryland in 2012, Biotech CEO of the Year from the World Vaccine Congress in 2011, the International Leadership Award from the World Trade Center Institute in 2010, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Greater Washington in 2009. In recognition of his philanthropic achievements, Mr. El-Hibri was presented the Shining Stars Award by Dar Al-Aytam in 2012 and the Rene Moawad Foundation Distinguished Community Service and Achievement Award in 2007. Mr. El-Hibri received a master’s degree in public and private management from Yale University and a B.A. with honors in economics from Stanford University.
He was born in Hildesheim, Germany on March 2, 1958.
